History
Turkish Bellydance has a long and interesting history derived from Ancient Mythology.
During primitive times the movements of the Bellydance was not used for entertainment but for maternal health and well being. It was traditionally the role of a pregnant woman's sister to ensure as smooth as birth as possible. Therefore in support of her sister in labour the actions of the undulating belly and other movements ensured this.
The movements transformed from pure well being to entertainment
during the Ottoman Empire. The sultan would request from the
women in his Harem to dance during parties to entertain the
guests and they were rewarded
for their performance. [Click here for a demonstration on traditional

the dancer into a sensual and enjoyable ritual.
In this century, Bellydance is appreciated more for its art; in spite of its sensuality, it is not ever considered as striptease. Bellydance is a complete cultural and artistic expression, through the music and the dancer which is also extended in the three dimensional intricate, delicate and elaborate costumes.
Today, through SEDADANCE - BellyRobics, we use Bellydance as a form of fitness and fun for all ages and all people.
